The rooster of Barcelos is believed to bring luck. The legend says that in the Middle Ages a cooked rooster came to life to prove the innocence of a Spanish pilgrim who was about to be unjustly hung to death in Barcelos for a crime he had not committed. The rooster of Barcelos is usually painted in black with a colourful flower pattern, (see our small iron figure of the rooster, ref. Me 1-1), but our rooster is white, minimalistic and quite realistic.
