     The tesseras were used in the Iberian and Roman world. It was a token of friendship, help pacts, and protection between different comunities. They usually had two pieces. Each party kept a piece of it and they carried it whenever they had to cross foreign territory to kept them from evil.  The tesseras had varied forms; hands ,zoomorphic figures such as bulls, wild boars and horses.
