The decorative technique called damascene is a laborious job of embedding gold and silver threads and leafs on a steel base. It is named after the Sirian city of Damask, from where it was imported to the Iberian Península by the Arabs. Toledo was the place where this technique had more success and where today craftsmen continue making all kind of goods decorated with damascene, both mechanically or by hand.
